Instigating buzz around the social web

What am I doing here?

Well, I did it. Took the leap and made the commitment to launch this blog. Why? Well mainly because I’m sick of people asking me why I don’t have my own blog if I claim to be a social media consultant! Trust me, I know the million reasons why I needed to start this blog but when I average only a handful of hours of sleep a night as it is, it was tough for me to make this commitment. And the one thing I always stress to my own clients is that if you can’t or aren’t ready to make the full commitment to social media…don’t do it! But here I am, and I am going to give it a go and I hope to learn (even if it’s painful) along the way.

In all seriousness though, my main goal for this project is to really learn about blogging from ground zero. I have developed a huge appreciation for bloggers and spend a majority of my time building relationships, understanding their needs, and pitching them for our clients, but I am definitely witnessing a shift in the blogosphere as a whole and I am hoping that by diving in now that I will better understand these changes and what it means to both bloggers and PR professionals.

If all goes as planned, here’s what I hope to learn and accomplish here:

1) Appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that goes in to creating and maintaining a blog to better understand a blogger’s interests, process and most of all needs

2) Connect with and learn from other worker bees and those that share similar interests and viewpoints on the social web and where it is headed

3) Find and use first-hand the cutting-edge technology that will continue to drive this social revolution

4) And finally, and most importantly I hope to one day be in a place where I am getting pitched by PR
people so that I can see first hand the good, the bad and the ugly and share this with peers to better our industry as we evolve at lightening speed

So bear with me and hopefully come along for the ride. I will share my own experiences and key learnings, but hope to instigate some great conversations with you along the way…
